According to a recent report from a Turkish media outlet, 61 Saat as quoted by the Sun, Newcastle United have joined the hunt to sign Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. PL heavyweights like Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also said to be keen on the player. It is estimated that he’ll cost somewhere around £17 million.
The 23-year-old star has represented his national team Turkey once and with some big clubs interested, one can make out how highly-rated Ugurcan is at the moment. However, the Trabzonspor stopper has not had a best of starts this season as Cakir is yet to keep a clean sheet in 13 appearances across all competitions.
His value is said to be around £17 million and spending that kind of money when the side has decent options doesn’t make sense. Moreover, the other elite clubs might be more keen on getting him. France international Hugo Lloris suffered a horrific injury, and he’s going to be out at least until the inter.
Arsenal might be on the observation post for a proper backup to Bernd Leno. As for the Anfield outfit, they might look for a backup for Alisson Becker though the Spanish goalie Adrian has done well this season.
However, for the Magpies, things could change if Martin Dubravka is reluctant to sign a fresh deal. If he pushes for a move to say PSG, then Newcastle United might need someone like Uguracn.
