Liverpool reportedly failed with an £86.5m move to sign Real Madrid star Federico Valverde in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

The Merseyside Reds decided to add Arthur on loan from Serie A giants, Juventus before the deadline, with the team suffering injuries to the likes of Alcantara, Henderson, Carvalho, Curtis Jones, Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to AS, the Merseyside Reds team made a bid in the region of £86.5m for Valverde, with the club determined to bring him to Anfield before the deadline.

However, the report suggests that Los Blancos found the offer to be ‘offensive’ and made it clear that they would not be selling him under any circumstances.

Valverde signed for Real Madrid from Penarol back in 2016, initially representing the Los Blancos Castilla before making his first-team debut in 2017.

The Uruguay international has represented the Spanish outfit on 155 times in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists in the process.

Valverde was a key player for Carlo Ancelotti’s side during the 2021-22 season, playing 46 games in all competitions, contributing one goal and two assists in the process.

The South American started the current campaigns as a central midfielder but was used as a right-sided forward in the latter stages of the season, starring in that position in the Champions League, with Real Madrid winning the competition for the 14th time in their history.

Valverde has also been vital player for Real Madrid this term, making seven appearances, contributing two goals and two assists in the process.
