Liverpool are reportedly eyeing move for Xherdan Shaqiri instead of Lyon’s Nabil Fekir, as claimed by ESPN. Swissman is set to leave current club Stoke City this summer because of their relegation from the Premier League. Several clubs are said to have been weighing up a move for the Switzerland international, but the Reds are the ones leading the chase.
Reports state that the Shaqiri’s brother and the agent met with Liverpool officials last week to discuss a possible transfer. The experienced midfielder is said to have a release clause of just £13.5 million, making him an attractive target for many top clubs.
The Merseyside club are also keen on signing the 26-year-old after negotiations with Lyon over signing Fekir recently broke down. The Ligue 1 outfit recently broke off transfer negotiations with Premier League club regarding the transfer of Fekir, and Liverpool have prioritised Shaqiri as the perfect alternative.
Despite the Stoke’s miserable season, Shaqiri enjoyed a relatively successful campaign on a personal level, bagging eight goals and seven assists. The Switzerland international is currently preparing for World Cup opener against where his country will face tournament favourites Brazil in their first match.
