Liverpool in pole position to sign Ligue 1 prolific winger

Merseyside club are reportedly lining up a transfer swoop for Lyon winger Memphis Depay, despite Spurs also being interested in the footballer. It’s also claimed that Man United have the option to rival any offer made for Netherlands international, so one imagines they could be in the running to bring him back to Theatre of Dreams.

Memphis has improved a huge amount since his failed first spell at Old Trafford, and it’s little wonder big clubs are now circling for him. Reds and Tottenham are showing a strong interest in this potential €50m deal, which could end up being a bargain if he can continue to perform at a high level in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old forward is contracted with the Ligue 1 giants until 2021, and his release clause is around €45m. He is a key figure for the national team line-up and also helped them to get the Euro 2020 ticket which is already a big achievement for the footballer.

Jurgen Klopp perhaps doesn’t desperately need new attacking footballers, but there have been signs Liverpool may be looking to bolster in that position. Jadon Sancho has been linked with Merseyside club of late, and Depay is a similar talent who could be a lot cheaper.

It would also surely be hugely satisfying for Liverpool to beat one of their main rivals in Red Devils to this signing. Spurs, meanwhile, could also do with strengthening after a poor start to the campaign that saw Mauricio Pochettino sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho, who may be keen to put his stamp on this squad.
