Liverpool have now opened negotiations to add Kevin Mantilla after being impressed with his displays at the South American Under-20 Championships. The Colombian defender was outstanding in the South American under-20 championship.
And his displays have caught the attention of several teams. Apparently, the Merseyside giants scouts were in attendance at the competition, which finished last week. And Liverpool have been urged to make a move for the 19-year-old defender.
Mantilla is highly rated in South America, and the defender has a big future ahead of him. The Reds could certainly use defensive reinforcements. And Kevin could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for Liverpool. Footballers like Gomez and Matip could be on their way out of Anfield soon.
While Matip has regressed significantly, Gomez has clearly not been the same footballer he was before his injury problems. The German manager will need to bring in talented young defenders during the summer transfer window.
