Liverpool have entered the race to sign 22-year-old Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo from the Serie A giants Roma in the summer transfer market, according to a fresh report by an Italian outlet Calciomercato.
He is widely considered as one of the best young attackers in his homeland, having progressed considerably since signing for I Giallorossi from Inter Milan in July 2018.
But he has been plagued by a spate of long-term knee injuries, which have been blocking the player from reaching his full potential.
Fortunately for him, Nicolo has been relatively injury-free this term, amassing four goals and five assists in 28 outings across all competitions.
But discussions between the club board and the agent over a contract renewal haven’t gone smoothly, with Zaniolo’s situation capturing the attention of some of the elite clubs in Europe, including the Reds.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side will have to ward off competition from Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus and Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid to prise the versatile player away from the Eternal City.
But the same report doesn’t mention a price tag, although previous claims in the latest weeks have suggested the Stadio Olimpico outfit could value their prized asset around €40 million.
