Liverpool keen on to agree deal for 23-year-old Barcelona SC defender

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Barcelona SC defender Byron Castillo as an understudy to first-choice Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 23-year-old Ecuadorian star currently plies his trade in the South American country and is believed to have drawn interest from the Reds and Leicester City.

Manager Jurgen Klopp currently has the Welsman Neco Williams as the recognised backup right-back variant but the ace has flourished in more advanced roles for Wales recently.

According to a recent report from Bolavip, Liverpool are interested in Castillo.

The report states that Boca Juniors and Flamengo are also pursuing the six-cap starlet although Toreros are unwilling to let the player go at any price.

Last season Castillo netted three and assisted four goals in 39 matches across all competitions – as well as being especially impressive for his nation in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Signing a reliable defender to supplement Trent, much like the role the Greece international Kostas Tsimikas has occupied on the left wing, is an important position to fill in Jurgen’s squad.

Byron would likely represent a good option even if it meant paying more than the asking price to persuade his current employers to sell.
