Liverpool are allegedly set to face stiff competition from city rivals Everton for the signing of Brazilian centre-back Gleison Bremer in January, according to a report from the Liverpool Echo.
Bremer featured 35 times in all competitions for Torino last season, netting five goals and setting up three more.
The South American has started in all but one of the Turin-based side’s Serie A matches in the current term, chipping in with a goal.
Liverpool are in a crisis situation at the moment, owing to a spate of injuries to the defensive personnel since the start of the new campaign.
And Torino star is the latest addition to the list of the possible targets for Klopp & co. as the winter market looms.
However, they will have to fight off the competition from Carlo Ancelotti’s side in order to sign the 23-year-old star.
The Toffees’ need for a new centre-half isn’t as pressing as Liverpool’s, with the side having brought in Ben Godfrey from Norwich City in the summer.
But the Italian tactician is looking to build a strong, youth-centric defensive unit around Ben and Mason Holgate, and sees Bremer as an ideal fit.
The left-footed defender is comfortable playing out from the defence, something that both the aforementioned outfits will want from their centre-back targets.
He still has a little under three years left on his deal with Torino, meaning that the Italians could demand a hefty sum for his services in January.
It will be interesting to see if either of the Reds or the Toffees act on their interest in the Brazilian.
