According to the Portuguese publication A Bola, Liverpool have retained their interest in €60m-rated top target Gelson Martins from Sporting Lisbon following the signing of Mohamed Salah from AS Roma last month.
A graduate of Sporting CP’s renowned academy, Gelson Martins is one of the most exciting youngsters across the Europe and has been identified by the likes of fellow graduate Cristiano Ronaldo as one to watch.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are reportedly keen to complete a deal for the explosive winger who was rumoured to be an alternative option had the deal for Mohamed Salah fallen through. The 22-year-old Martins has provided impressive 14 assists and scored six goals last season, as Sporting finished third in the Primeira Liga.
Despite his tender years, the Portuguese attacker has already established himself at international level and was instrumental for Portugal during this summer’s Confederations Cup.
But though many assumed that Liverpool’s interest in the youngster would cease following successful capture of Mohamed Salah from Roma, Jurgen Klopp is apparently eager to make a major statement of intent with a further approach for Martins.
