Liverpool are reportedly ready to turn their attention to agree on new deals for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker instead of making marquee signings.

In recent months, there has been frequent rumours regarding an approach for German striker, Timo Werner, who is believed to quit from RB Leipzig later in 2021.

However, with the Merseyside Reds believed to be in two minds over a move at this time, it appears that 24-year-old forward will instead make a switch to Premier League rivals, Chelsea.

According to The Independent, that will result in the Merseyside Reds placing their focus on new deals for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.

Although Dutchman’s possesses a contract until 2023, the Merseyside Reds want to get a deal over the line before other teams begin to express an interest in the defender.

Alisson is tied to Jurgen Klopp’s side for a further 12 months. However, club officials recognise the Brazilian goalkeeper has been a vital player to the Merseyside Reds and ready to reward him with a new long-term contract.

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk since his transfer from Southampton has become the best defender in the world and his form has attracted interest from top teams across Europe including Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
