Liverpool could reportedly go head-to-head with their direct Premier League rivals Chelsea for the services of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.
The Uruguay international’s future at Camp Nou is currently being called into question, with his contract set to expire in June 2023.
La Liga giants, Barcelona are believed to be keen to secure the services of the 22-year-old defender to an extension but could struggle to offer him an improvement on his current wages following to their ongoing financial problems.
A recent report suggested that the Blues are ready to explore the possibility of signing the South American defender during next summer’s transfer window.
However, according to ESPN, there is also interest from the Merseyside Reds, with Jurgen Klopp’s side identifying him as the ideal player to boost their backline unit for the 2022-23 season.
Araujo has been a regular for Xavi’s team during the current campaign, playing 13 games in all competitions, while he has featured on 52 occasions for the Catalan giants since arriving from Boston River in 2018.
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Chelsea also planning to move for another Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele who is expected to be on his way out from Nou Camp ahead of the next season.
