Barcelona Keeper Linked With Surprise Move to Liverpool
LIVERPOOL are battling two European giants to sign Barcelona second choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to the reports from Britains.
The Dutchman has failed to secure regular first-team football at Nou Camp following the tough competition from Marc Andre Ter Stegen.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper is still classed as the Netherlands’ first-choice stopper.
But Cillessen has had to settle for Copa del Rey appearances only in the last two campaigns.
And it appears the Dutch keeper is attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Napoli, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid are all in the hunt for 28-year-old keeper, who has been contracted with the Catalan club until 2021.
The former Ajax keeper has a release clause of €60m (£51.9m) that has temped hosts of European clubs.
But Mundo Deportivo claim that Cillessen is happy with his life at Nou Camp despite being second choce goalkeeper.
The Merseyside Reds have been on the lookout for a new stopper in the recent years and Cillessen seems to be an ideal replacement for Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool boosted in their pursuit for highly-rated French forward
Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have cleared the path for French winger Thomas Lemar to leave the club this summer after he issued a come-and-get-me plea to Liverpool and Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger’s side saw a £92million deal for the Ligue 1 giants ace fall through at the end of last seasons transfer window. However, Frenchman remains interested in signing of 22-year-old forward.
However, the Merseyside Reds are also keen and Lemar recently revealed that he was ‘disappointed not to secure a move to England during the last season’s summer transfer window.
Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev revealed that he was happy for 22-year-old to depart, although the Ligue 1 giants would command a high fee for his signature.
And he invited clubs to bid for the 22-year-old forward by telling Telefoot: ‘Good luck to those who want him.”
Lemar had previously said of failed bids from Arsenal and Liverpool: ‘I’m not going to hide it, I was a little disappointed. I try not to think about it.
‘I’ve kept working so that these clubs come back during the next transfer window.
‘My future? I am open to everything. I love all the different leagues.’
Almost Done: Liverpool on ther verge to announce signing of highly-rated Englishman
Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal for Manchester City midfield starlet Bobby Duncan.
The 16-year-old playmaker, the cousin of Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard, is in dispute with the Citizens over his contract at the Etihad Stadium and is expected to leave the club after the end of the month.
The highly-rated teenager has not featured for any of Manchester City’s youth squad this campaign, and it’s believed he will join up with Gerrard’s Under-18s team at Liverpool.
According to The Sun, Steven Gerrard cousin will not be allowed to join the Merseyside Reds until the June – when he turns 17 – because of the Reds’ ban of signing young English players from other clubs.
It’s reported that the Merseyside Reds will be forced to pay a compensation fee of around £200,000 for Manchester City starlet.
The promising teenager became the first England player that has scored a hat-trick against Brazil last year.
Steven Gerrard’s cousin has been keeping up his fitness by training with Championship outfits Wigan until he is given the green light on making a move to Liverpool.
The midfielder had trials with the Merseyside Reds before he completed a move to the Citizens.
