Liverpool set to make approach for Inter Milan 6 ft 2 defender

Liverpool have reportedly identified Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij as a potential transfer target next month.

The Merseyside Reds are currently without Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season, while Joel Matip has also suffered another injury recently, and Jurgen Klopp has been tipped to solve his defensive issues when the transfer window will be re-opened in January.

RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano has been mentioned as a potential solution, but Liverpool are reportedly exploring a number of options ahead of the January window.

According to FCInterNews, Inter’s centre-back de Vrij has been earmarked as an ideal addition for the Premier League champions, however, the Merseyside Reds may struggle to prise him away from San Siro.

The report suggests that Antonio Conte is not looking to sell one of his first-team regulars, and while Serie A giants are prepared to do away with some players next month, the club would not sanction a deal for De Vrij.

The Netherlands international has played 15 games for the Nerazzurri in all competitions this campaign, and De Vrij is contracted to Inter until the end of the 2022-23 season.
