Liverpool set to make approach for Inter Milan defensive pair

Liverpool are reportedly interested in securing the services of Inter Milan pair Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni for the summer transfer window.

This comes from Italian publication Leggo, who claims a number of Premier League teams are keeping an eye on the defensive pair, both of whom form part of Antonio Conte’s three-man defence.

Prior rumours had claimed that the Reds’ interest may have extended to fellow centre-back partner Milan Skriniar, however, it seems unlikely with Man Utd is likely to be a better destination for him.

A quality centre-back in the upcoming transfer window will be a priority for Liverpool after their injury crisis in 2020/21 season.

Considering the profile of players Jurgen Klopp usually goes for, Alessandro Bastoni could be a perfect addition for them as he would certainly fit the bill, with the German unlikely to bring an older defender in De Vrij (29) in unless as a potential replacement for Matip.

With two years left on his current deal, not to mention the financial concerns plaguing Europe, there’s a possibility the player could be snatched from Inter Milan for a relatively reasonable fee – if Ozan Kabak isn’t preferred for a potentially more palatable £18m.
