Sporting Lisbon playmaker Matheus Nunes is reportedly set to remain with the Portuguese outfit amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

The 23-year-old midfielder has earned rumours with a summer switch to Merseyside Reds and the Blues after playing a vital role in the middle of the park under Ruben Amorim last campaign.

Nunes found back of the net four times and set up five more in 50 appearances for Sporting Lisbon across all competitions, including three goals and two assists from 33 Primeira Liga matches.

The talented midfielder broke into the Sporting XI during their triumphant 2020-21 campaign – claiming the Portuguese top-flight title – and he extended his deal with the tea, until 2026 in October.

Sporting have already sanctioned Joao Palhinha’s departure to Fulham in the summer, which would make the task of prising Nunes away from his homeland all the more tough.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Sporting manager Amorim has no intention of selling their star player, Nunes leave this summer and has convinced the 23-year-old playmaker to remain put for at least one more year.

Furthermore, with Nunes under deal at Sporting for another four years, it would reportedly take an offer of £51m for the Portuguese team to consider parting ways with the lynchpin.
