Liverpool have renewed their interest in Real Betis centre-back Aissa Mandi and keen to take advantage of the player’s availability on a free this summer.
That’s according to Spanish source La Razon, who say the Reds would face competition from Serie A club AC Milan for him.
They explain the 29-year-old defender’s future is currently a ‘mystery’, with his deal expiring in June and no sign of renewal as yet.
That would indicate that Mandi will leave the Verdiblanco on a free in the summer, but Aissa does not rule out extending his stay with the club.
For the moment, though, the Algerian is free to negotiate with anyone he likes and both the Reds and I Rossoneri want to take advantage of that situation.
The links to Jurgen Klopp’s side are nothing new, given Mandi was an option for them last summer and last month when the Anfield outfit were desperate to add someone late in the window.
Now a transfer can be done at zero cost, and that makes Aissa a very attractive option for them, although whether he would want the move is debatable as the player would not be guaranteed regular minutes.
Indeed, if that is a priority for the defender, then a move to the San Siro would make more sense, with it felt he’d have more options in Serie A than on Merseyside.
Thus, the Reds may have a bit of convincing to do if they are interested in Mandi, with this rumour likely to rumble on for as long as the Real Betis man remains available on a free.
