Liverpool set to reward Spanish midfielder with new contract

Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly set to offer Spanish playmaker Pedro Chirivella a new long-term contract.

The 22-year-old playmaker has only played once in the English top-tier for the Merseyside Reds since joining from La Liga outfits Valencia back in 2013. However, he has featured four times this campaign in cup competitions and was stunning form in Sunday’s FA Cup victory over their bitter rivals Everton.

The Spaniard’s current contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side expires at the end of this campaign, and Sky Sports News reports that the Merseyside Reds are prepared to offer him a new deal as a reward for the progress they have seen from him during the current season.

Chirivella had been rumoured with loan moves to the likes of Nottingham Forest in recent weeks, while the Hammers were also thought to be interested in securing his signature.

The defensive midfielder is known to want more regular first-team football minutes, and it is unclear whether he would get them at Anfield with Naby Keita and Fabinho above him in the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

Meanwhile, Liverpool another starlet Rhian Brewster has completed a loan move to Swansea City for the remainder of the season.
