Liverpool have reportedly identified Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij as a potential transfer target for the next season.

While the Merseyside heavyweights are currently well stocked for options at the backline, the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have missed the most part of the 2020/21 season.

The first-choice duo are believed to make a return for the start of the next campaign, however, they will require time to get back up to speed with Premier League football.

According to FCInterNews, the Merseyside Reds have made contact with De Vrij’s agents to enquire about a switch to Anfield.

The 29-year-old has been a huge hit in Serie A, impressing during four years at Lazio before helping Inter to end Juventus hegemony and win the trophy.

Although the Netherlands international still has two years left on his contract, Inter’s financial situation may lead to them considering to listen to offers for the 6 ft 2 defender.

De Vrij could and Van Dijk have already played together at the International level and their relationship could help Liverpool to lure him at Anfield for the next season.
