Former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes that Egypt international Mohamed Salah may leave Liverpool this summer if the club do not win the Premier League.
Mohamed has been outstanding since joining Anfield outfit in the 2017 transfer window and was heavily connected with a move to Real Madrid after his side’s Champions League final defeat last summer.
And Heskey states that Liverpool may struggle to keep hold of the key man if Jurgen Klopp’s side do not win the league this year.
West Ham United prevented Liverpool from creating a five-point gap between Champions Manchester City and themselves as the Hammers held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.
Speaking to Express Sport (via TeamTalk) after the match, Heskey suggested star players may depart from the club this summer window if they miss the chance of stating their first EPL title this season.
“There’s always that risk [that Salah may want to leave]. The relationship between the players and the Liverpool fans is such that they always want to give the league another go.”
“I’m not saying that they [Salah, Firmino and Mane] wouldn’t go, but there is plenty of reason for them to stay.”
