Liverpool’s management have no plans to give new deal to 24-year-old defender

Contrary to rumours published over the weekend, Liverpool’s management have no plans to give Andy Robertson a fresh contract, but that does not mean that the club are unhappy with the left-back.

As reported by James Pearce of the newspaper, Liverpool Echo, Reds wanted to make it clear that they have not offered Scotland international a new deal, nor are they in negotiations with the star or representatives.

Liverpool’s hierarchy wanted to get this information into the public domain because they were conscious that it would be hugely unfair on Andy to let people believe that there is a fresh contract for him on the table as when no announcement about a new contract came, fans might think that Robertson was stalling on signing, when there was really nothing to sign in the first place.

Pearce reports that Andy’s contract with the Reds contains a host of incentives so he’s already been rewarded for his excellent displays by hitting those targets.

The full-back still has three-and-a-half years left on his Reds contract so there is no rush for him to agree to terms on a new deal just yet.
