Lyon wonderkid linked with surprise move to Liverpool

Liverpool have allegedly enquired about highly-regarded Lyon starlet Rayan Cherki.

The Reds are said to be among a host of sides keen on the 18-year-old midfielder as Ligue 1 club Nice and arch-rivals Manchester United also show an interest.

Named in The Guardian’s Next Generation list two years ago, the Frenchman was described as a ‘powerfully-built’ attacking midfielder tipped for ‘superstar’ status.

Now, a report from the French reputable outlet L’Equipe has stated that Jurgen Klopp’s side are attentive to the wantaway ace’s situation.

The report adds that the France youth star has become disenchanted with a lack of minutes at Les Gones and could try his luck away from Groupama Stadium.

Rated at £18 million (Transfermarkt), landing the player, who is under contract until June 2023, should be an affordable venture for the Merseyside giants.

In spite of an apparent dip in development, it’d appear much of the problem lies in the playmaker may lie in seeking a new challenge.

Capable of operating across the frontline and with top-quality attributes, the German manager would welcome a player of his ilk to the squad.

Tipped to depart in the next transfer market, this is a situation that the Premier League side should be capitalising on.

This season Rayan has scored twice and registered four assists in 18 appearances in all competitions.
