Manchester City are reportedly planning to make a move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge who has been rumoured with a switch to Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola’s team are likely to be waving goodbye to long-serving midfielder Fernandinho, whose deal set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and the Citizens are expected to strengthen their midfield if the 35-year-old does depart from the club.
Berge has not featured for Sheffield United since December following to a serious hamstring tear – which he has undergone surgery on – however, the Norway international impressed for the Blades before entering the treatment room.
According to Belgian outlet Voetbal24, Manchester City will look to strike a contract for Berge if Fernandinho’s exit is confirmed, however, they are not the only Premier League team interested in his services.
The report claims that the Merseyside Reds will consider making a move for the Blades midfielder as Georginio Wijnaldum runs the clock down on his Anfield contract, however, Sheffield United are not prepared to sanction a cheap deal despite their seemingly unavoidable relegation to the Championship, as his ex-club Genk will pocket 20% of any future transfer fee.
Berge is under deal at Bramall Lane until 2024, and he has provided two goals and two assists from 30 games for the club since arriving in January 2020.
