Manchester United are pushing to wrap up a £30million deal for Spain under 21 midfielder star Carlos Soler before the summer transfer window opens.
United have started talks with Soler’s club Valencia, with the Liga club unlikely to hold out for the player’s £75million buy-out clause due to financial issues.
After a series of disappointing transfer windows following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils believe their ability to complete the signings of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in summer has helped their impressive start to the current season and they are keen to do their business early again.
The 20-year-old Soler first attracted United’s attention when he broke in Valencia’s first-team last season.
Jose Mourinho sees him as a perfect foil for Paul Pogba and Matic in a midfield three.
The England international Michael Carrick is likely to retire at the end of the season while there are question marks over the Old Trafford futures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.
Soler scored for his team against Real Madrid in a 2-2 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season.
Carlos Soler has played in 35 games so far, as he has scored four goals and collected five assists for the club
