Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire reportedly turned down interest from La Liga giants, Barcelona earlier this summer, with the defender determined to turn his Red Devils career around.
A difficult 2021-22 season led to England’s international defender receiving widespread criticism, with the 29-year-old making a number of mistakes during a disappointing campaign for the Red Devils.
Earlier this year, there were reports that the defender’s future at Old Trafford was in doubt, while new manager Erik ten Hag is also believed to have considered taking the armband away from the Englishman.
However, Maguire will stay as skipper for the 2022-23 season, with Ten Hag full of praise for the ex-Sheffield United youngster since taking over as head coach.
There were talks of interest from the Catalan giants earlier this summer, as they are looking to sign one more centre-back before the start of the new season.
According to The Mirror, Xavi’s side were keen to bring the England international back to Nou Camp this summer and had been in touch with his agents to discuss a move.
The report also suggests that Maguire was mentioned during discussions between Man Utd and Barcelona over Frenkie de Jong, who is still with the Catalan side.
However, the defender allegedly made it clear that he is keen on remaining at Old Trafford and has no intention to join the Spanish giants.
