Manchester United have reportedly contacted La Liga giants Barcelona about the potential January transfer market signing of midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
According to Sport, the Croatian star is available for around €40 million and seems ready to leave the club for one final huge contract, with the report also quoting the player as suggesting he’s not happy with his lack of game time at the Camp Nou this season.
Ivan has previously been a world-class performer for Blaugrana and his falling down the pecking order this season seems harsh, even if there is now increased competition for spots in Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Manchester United would do well to pounce for Ivan if they can get him this January window, though Sport also link the 31-year-old star with Inter Milan.
Still, Manchester United should surely do all they can to win the hunt for his signature as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks in urgent need of upgrades on Nemanja Matic and Fred in the middle of the park.
It’s been a difficult start to the campaign for United and it seems clear they need to bolster in January, and an experienced winner like Ivan looking ideal to solve their current problems.
In other news, Manchester United are weighing up a January move for Juventus midfielder Emre Can, according to a recent report from Calciomercato.
The club have been linked with a couple of midfielders in recent weeks, with chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently short of options in that department of the field due to the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini over the last two transfer windows.
