The Premier League giants Manchester United could reportedly receive a huge blow in their hopes of landing Greece international central defender Kostas Manolas, according to football news Italian website Calciomercato.com.
The Manchester-based outfit have been connected with luring the Serie A giants AS Roma powerful centre-back to Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old star, who has 36 international caps for his country, has netted one goal (against Atalanta B.C.) in his side’s opening four Serie A fixtures thus far this season.
Manolas, who joined Giallorossi from the Greek side Olympiacos back in August 2014 for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around €15 million back, has netted seven goals in 174 matches overall for the Italian outfit.
With the strong defender said to be drawing interest from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, the report claims AS Roma are aiming to erase the release (buy-out) clause in Manolas’ current contract in a bid to keep the key star at the Stadio Olimpico.
Former AEK Athens and Olympiacos player is under contract until June of 2022, with the current deal including a €36 million release clause (approximately £32 million).
