Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the progress of Emiliano Martinez with a view of launching a move for the Argentine star to become their next number one, according to the Daily Star.
At the Villa, the former Arsenal goalkeeper has established himself as one of the top shot-stoppers in the Premier League and also helped his country secure the 2021 Copa America title in the summer.
The player was named the goalie of the tournament and has since drawn interest from several clubs across Europe.
The Red Devils are now supposedly keen on bringing him in as a long-term successor for David De Gea.
While the Spain international has been brilliant in his performances this season, the player has been inconsistent at the high level in the past few campaigns.
For the best part of the last campaign, then-boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferred Dean Henderson to the former Atletico Madrid man in goal.
However, with David’s contract lasting until June 2023, the star may not give up his number one spot just yet, and the report adds that Martinez will only be purchased if the club can offload de Gea in the summer.
With Dean tipped to leave the Theatre of Reams, there could surely be room for a new player between the sticks.
