Man Utd eyeing move for La Liga defender valued at £72m

Sevilla talent Jules Kounde has once again emerged as a potential defensive target for Manchester United.

The Red Devils are currently enjoying a fantastic run of form that sees them second in the Premier League table.

However, it is thought that head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still look to add new players to the team in January.

The transfer market opened last week and the biggest clubs are already linked to those deemed available.

United were named as one of the possible buyers for the France Under-21 stopper in the summer but nothing happened.

Rivals Manchester City were said to be at the front of the queue for Kounde’s signature but the club baulked at the price and opted for the Portugal international Ruben Dias instead.

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, the Old Trafford club still hold an interest in the gifted youngster.

Jules made his debut as a teenager for Bordeaux, playing 70 times across all competitions across two campaigns before moving to La Liga.

The Parisian made 40 appearances last season and has started 11 league games in 2020-2021, netting once. United have been tracking and his signing could herald the exit of some peripheral players.

Sevilla are in a strong position to keep Kounde as he is under contract until June 2024. His buy-out clause is said to be £72 million and, in the current market, they may well hold out for that amount.

United will need to trim their defense to facilitate the move, with Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones likely to be moved on. The latest rumours have persisted for some while that the pair were vulnerable.
