Man Utd eyeing move for South American star valued at £18m

Manchester United have allegedly stepped up their interest in the gifted Brazilian striker Gabriel Veron.

Spanish newspaper Sport states the Old Trafford outfit have moved to the front of the queue for the 18-year-old ace following his impressive showings with Copa Libertadores finalists Palmeiras.

He has eight goals and three assists in 33 outings for his club and Gabriel is valued extremely highly with a £53 million exit clause in his contract.

However, it’s reckoned Palmeiras are prepared to sell Veron for just £18 million and the Red Devils are apparently lining up a bid to bring him to England.

However, they will not be without competition for his coveted signature. Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus are all understood to be admirers.

Indeed, the South American is said to favour a transfer to the Camp Nou should the chance arise but much depends on the outcome of the upcoming presidential election, with money already tight at the club.

Palmeiras have experience of dealing with Manchester sides, having sold Gabriel Jesus to City back in 2017 for a club-record £30m.

And United could raise funds by selling Jesse Lingard, who has just extended his contract by a year to prevent him from leaving for nothing this summer.

The midfielder is said to be a target for Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and West Ham United, and could be off before the end of January.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have approached Inter Milan over the possibility of signing unwanted playmaker Christian Eriksen on loan for the remainder of the campaign, according to Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window podcast.

The Denmark international is free to depart San Siro in January after struggling to fit into Antonio Conte’s system since arriving one year ago.
