Newcastle United are closing in on the capture of Hugo Ekitike. The Magpies are confident they can soon reach a deal to add the Stade Reims striker, leapfrogging teams like Man United and Chelsea in the process. U20 France international has been on Newcastle United’s shortlist for quite some time.
They had tried to add Ekitike in the winter transfer window, but the move broke down as Stade Reims were adamant about keeping hold of their star footballer.
But it appears they are prepared to offload him at the end of the campaign, with Newcastle likely to strike a long-term loan deal in order to keep in line with Financial Fair Play regulations. The Magpies will likely have the option to make a move permanent after the end of the loan spell.
Hugo himself is keen on arriving at Newcastle United and becoming a part of Howe’s exciting project, with the club poised to compete for the European places in the coming campaign. Another possible destination for the 19-year-old striker was Man United.
Following Rashford’s struggles, coupled with the expected departures of Martial and Cavani, Man United are in the market for a new frontman to support Ronaldo up front. The French striker might have been the perfect option due to his technical ability and versatility in the final third. But it appears the Frenchman has his heart set on a move to Newcastle United.
