Man Utd passed up opportunity to finally bring in Senegal defender

Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with a switch to Manchester United repeatedly over the seasons, ever since the Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford.

Neither the club nor any other team have been successful in taking the player away from the Serie A club.

The Red Devils were in the market for a new centre-half in the summer and they bolstered the position by bringing in Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side looked at the Senegal international in the last market, if a recent report from Corriere dello Sport is to be believed.

The outlet explains the 30-year-old star is enjoying his football at the Naples outfit after ‘difficult years’.

The same report states the former Genk ace is one of the best centre-halves in the world and also suggest Manchester United never showed desire in meeting the price tag set by the Partenopei for Koulibaly in the last window.

The report states the English giants didn’t evaluate what Luciano Spalletti’s side considered appropriate: including add-ons, not even €40 million.

That €40 million is far less than what they have wanted previously.

United ended up with Raphael, who is close to two years younger than Kalidou and has more experience of playing at the highest level than Koulibaly.
