Manchester United would have reportedly made a move for Chelsea’s full-back Emerson Palmieri in the latter stages of the summer transfer window had a deal for Brazilian defender Alex Telles fallen through.
The 20-times English champions finalised a move for Brazil international Telles on transfer deadline day of the transfer window.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team had planned for the possibility of missing out on the 27-year-old full-back by identifying Emerson as a possible acquisition.
Former AS Roma defender was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer, however, the transfer deadline passed with the Italy international still with Frank Lampard’s side.
Emerson, who was rumoured with Juventus, has featured on two occasions in the EFL Cup this campaign, however, has not even made the team for any of the Blues four Premier League games in 2020-21.
Telles will battle Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for the left-back spot in United’s first XI.
Chelsea another full-back Marcos Alonso has been also rumoured with a departure from the Stamford Bridge stadium on the deadline day of the transfer window as Inter Milan wanted him to make a return to Serie A, however, the deal didn’t go through.
