Manchester United have reportedly identified Sevilla’s centre-back Jules Kounde as their transfer targets in January.
The 20-times English champions were rumoured with a new central defender throughout the current transfer window, however, ultimately focused on other areas of their team, securing the services of Dutch playmaker, Donny van de Beek, Uruguay pair Edinson Cavani, Facundo Pellistri and Alex Telles.
However, after conceding 11 goals in their three Premier League games Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be planning further additions in the winter transfer window.
ESPN claims that Kounde, who was strongly linked with a switch to Manchester City during the summer, has been added to the Red Devils wish list when the window reopens.
However, Sevilla demanded the Frenchman’s full £82m release clause during talks with the Citizens and are unlikely to lower their price tag during mid-season talks with the Red Devils.
The report suggests that 20-times English champions will need to offload two of their current defender before they can begin discussions, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been deemed surplus to requirements after being left out of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad for the Champions League group stages.
The 20-times English champions have also been linked with Napoli’s centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly as a defensive partner for Harry Maguire.
