Man Utd ready to involve key player in a swap deal for Coutinho this summer

Manchester United may be given the opportunity to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona as part of a deal that would see Juan Mata head the opposite direction.

The Brazilian forward has been linked with a shock return to England, just a year on from swapping Premier League leaders Liverpool for the Catalan side in a £142 million transfer, after struggling the establish himself at the Camp Nou.

The playmaker has played a direct part in just two goals in his last 13 matches in all competitions, leading to rumours that Ernesto Valverde is looking for a replacement.

Spanish publication Sport reports that Ernesto Valverde has given up hope of turning the Brazil international’s form around and there is an opportunity for the Red Devils to pounce.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo states that Spanish champions are interested in Juan Mata and the 30-year-old World Cup winner could be used as a makeweight of sorts.

Juan Mata is due to be out of the deal in the summer and is believed to have already been in contact with Spanish giants over an end-of-season switch, however, meaning that the 20-times English champions would first have to tie him down to a new deal.
