Man Utd boosted in their pursuit of La Liga No.21 midfielder

Barcelona manager, Xavi insists he ‘really likes’ Frenkie de Jong but has suggested the club could sell the Manchester United and Chelsea target in order to avoid financial fair play.

La Liga giants are playing a dangerous game as they continue to splash the money on summer additions despite being in more than £1bn of debt.

Raphina and Robert Lewandowski are the latest big-money arrivals at the Nou Camp, with deals for Sevilla’s centre-back Jules Kounde and Portuguese midfielder, Bernardo Silva also in the works.

Given the spending spree, the Catalan giants could look to offload a number of first-team players before the transfer deadline, with De Jong attracting interest from Premier League giants Chelsea and Man Utd.

Xavi views Dutchman as a ‘key player’ at Catalan giants, however, admits a decision over his future could be taken out of his hands given the teams financial situation.

‘We’ve had private conversations that are very important, that I will not reveal here,’ Xavi said after Barcelona’s 1-0 win over La Liga rivals Real Madrid on Sunday.

‘He’s a key player, but then there’s the economic situation and Financial Fair Play.’

Manchester United have been rumoured about a move for De Jong throughout the summer, however, the midfielder himself is keen on remaining at Nou Camp.

Chelsea have also expressed interest in signing De Jong as Tuchel wants to strengthen his midfield area ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Diogo Dalot sends a message to wantaway Man Utd forward

Diogo Dalot has urged Portugues superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Man Utd amid exit talks.

Ronaldo is keen on leaving Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 season following the club’s failure to participate in the Champions League, football super-agent Jorge Mendes offered his client to hosts of European teams.

Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all believed to have rejected the chance to secure the services of the 37-year-old forward with Atletico Madrid not currently in a position to fund a move.

The Portugal international forward did not travel with the team for their tour of Asia and Australia and has not returned for pre-season following due to ‘family reasons’.

Man Utd boss, Erik ten Hag is still counting on Ronaldo ahead of his first campaign in charge with Dalot also hopeful his countryman stays at Old Trafford‘

‘I think Cristiano is important for us,’ Dalot said. ‘What we know is he is going through some family issues, we hope everything is OK and that’s how we do.’

The Red Devils ended their pre-season tour undefeated with wins over Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and a draw with Aston Villa.

Man Utd keeping close tabs on 13-goals Red Bull Salzburg forward

Man Utd United are reportedly ‘well-informed’ on Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Benjamin Sesko and keeping close tabs on his signature ahead of a summer move.

The 19-year-old has found back of the net 13 times and provided eight assists in 40 games for Salzburg’s first team, including 11 goals and seven assists in 37 appearances during the 2021-22 season.

Sesko has already found back of the net twice and provided one assist in two games this season, meanwhile, starring in his team’s Bundesliga opener against Austria Vienna on Friday.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, and Newcastle United are among the teams to be credited with an interest in the teenager, who also scored 22 goals in 44 games for FC Liefering.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, alongside with Liverpool another Premier League club, Man United are also in the picture for the youngster, with the 20-times English champions closely monitoring his form.

Romano reports that Man Utd view Sesko as a ‘really talented’ youngster, however, they are not currently in advanced talks over a deal for him despite some recent talks.

Sesko, who has also found the back of the net twice in 13 games for Slovakia, has a deal at Salzburg until June 2026, however, the club are unlikely to be able to keep hold of him on a long-term basis.
