Barcelona have told central midfielder Ivan Rakitic that they won’t be improving his current contract this campaign and may have to wait until next season to be offered improved terms.
The Croatia international key man, who played a starring role as Croatia got to the final of the World Cup, has been heavily connected over the summer with a move to the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke to radio show ‘El Transistor‘ about Ivan’s future and claimed that the club would have to wait to offer the midfielder a new deal.
“This season we will not be able to make the gesture that Rakitic is asking of us,” Bartomeu said. “Next season we can look at it in relation to new revenue.”
Ivan even reportedly turned down a move to Paris Saint-Germain as he showed loyalty to the Catalan club and will be disappointed by the latest news.
The 30-year-old star joined Barcelona from the Spanish side Sevilla in 2014 for a reported £17 million and has since been an essential player for the club.
