Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged Manchester United to hijack Chelsa move for West Ham Utd versatile midfielder Declan Rice.
Rice has enjoyed a stunning season in east London, playing in all 36 of West Ham’s Premier League games to help them to secure their place in the top-tier for another year.
The 21-year-old’s form have attracted interest from a number of teams, with the Blues particularly keen and plotting a move ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The West London club’s head-coach Frank Lampard is believed to be a huge admirer of Rice, who spent almost a decade at the Blues academy before making the switch to West Ham at the age of 15.
But Manchester United have also been rumoured with securing his services ahead of the next season and Barnes sees him to be a perfect fit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
He told BonusCodeBets: ‘Regarding the ongoing transfer rumours on Declan Rice, I am not sure that he would come into Manchester United and take over that defensive midfield role, especially as Nemanja Matic has recently signed a two-year contract.
‘However, United must look to the future and Rice is a good young English player and would be a good signing for United.
‘Of course, he’s a West Ham player and from his own point of view if he must move on, I think Manchester United would be a good place for him.’
