Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to launch a move for Harry Kane and says he ‘cannot believe’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not trying to bring the England and Tottenham striker to Old Trafford.
Kane, who has scored 188 goals in 288 games for Spurs, was tentatively linked with a move to Old Trafford earlier in the summer.
Those links have stopped gathering pace for the time being, however, with the club currently working on deals for Sergio Reguilon and Jadon Sancho.
Merson says Manchester United are ‘crying out’ for a new centre-forward and should be looking to seal a stunning deal for Kane.
Merson told Sky Sports: ‘I’m probably Harry Kane’s biggest fan after his Mum and Dad! I look at him and I think: “What are you going to win at Tottenham?”
‘He’s one of the best in the business at scoring goals, but he’s scoring 30 goals a season and not getting chances to win trophies, what’s the point in being there? I just cannot believe nobody has come in for him. What am I missing?!
‘Manchester United are crying out for a goal scoring centre-forward, and if I’m being honest I think Man City are too. I just don’t understand why there isn’t more talk about a team signing Kane.’
Elsewhere, Real Madrid remain hopeful that Manchester United will make an offer for Gareth Bale before the end of the summer transfer market, the latest reports say.
While he has two years left on his contract, both the star and club will likely look to reach a compromise about financial terms over the coming weeks.
If Gareth is unprepared to scrap the final one year of his deal to earn a free transfer, Real Madrid management are likely to demand in the region of £18 million for his signature.
