Manchester United have reportedly opted against sealing a transfer return for their former centre-forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The veteran Swedish star is still going strong with LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS) and there has been some talk that the striker could still have another spell in Europe in him.
However, it seems the Red Devils’ board have made the decision not to re-sign Zlatan as they don’t want any short-term fixes this January window, according to the Telegraph.
The 38-year-old star shone in his first spell at Old Trafford, netting 29 goals in 53 appearances for Manchester United, including some important strikes for the club in the League Cup final win against Southampton in 2017.
Zlatan has since shown outstanding form out in the United States, and many United fans would probably still feel he is a better option up front than the struggling England international Marcus Rashford.
Still, it also seems clear that Red Devils need to move on and build something more long-term if the club are to get back to their best.
Meantime, AC Milan are prepared to battle Manchester United for the signature of Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic when the January transfer market opens for business, Calciomercato reports.
United are said to have already made contact with Blaugrana over a swoop for the 31-year-old midfielder, who has only started one La Liga game in the early stages of the 2019-20 term.
