Martin Keown urges Arsenal to sign Man Utd out-of-favour defender

Gunners legend Martin Keown has sensationally urged the London club to sign Man United star Chris Smalling to strengthen their back-line. Keown’s comments come in the wake of Unai Emery’s sacking as Gunners boss.

London club’s back-line has been below-par for several years now, and Arsenal seriously need to make things tighter at the back if they’re to have any hope of returning to their former glory anytime soon. England international has rejuvenated his career since moving to Roma on loan.

Smalling is flourishing in Paulo Fonseca’s side. Given the ace’s Premier League experience and according to Keown, only a £13m price-tag,  Chris seems like a solid option for the London club. Smalling became an unchanged figure for the Giallorossi and played several games impressively.

“Smalling is doing exceptionally well, £13m, the price they are putting on his head, that’s not enough,” “Arsenal could maybe do worse than to take him.” It’s essential that the Gunners next coach finds a way to eradicate the team’s defensive woes.

The London club are sitting 9th in the Premier League, fans will be hoping that club legend Freddie Ljungberg can inspire the underperforming side to a much-needed victory against relegation candidates Norwich. Gunners need a new experienced centre-back to strengthen the back-line and Englishman is the best option in this situation.

Arsenal signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano, Nicolas Pepe from Lille, David Luiz from Chelsea, Kieran Tierney from Celtic and Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid with a loan deal.
