Newcastle United eyeing ambitious move for Arsenal forward

Arsenal attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has allegedly emerged as a potential winter transfer target for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.

Having been stripped of Arsenal captaincy after a disciplinary breach, the Gabon international has been left out of the roster for the last five matches, leading to constant speculation over a possible move in January.

Juventus and Barcelona are both said to hold a genuine interest in the 32-year-old star, who has 18 months remaining on his existing deal at the Emirates Stadium.

However, according to a Spanish daily sports newspaper Sport, the Magpies are ready to get involved in the hunt for the player’s signature, their search for a new attacker now becoming a priority.

Their head coach revealed after Monday night’s match with Manchester United that top goalscorer Callum Wilson may possibly be sidelined for “weeks, maybe month” after picking up a muscle injury.

While it is suggested that the side will not be Pierre-Emerick’s first choice, they have the financial firepower to get a reported deal over the line.

In the meantime, Arsenal is keen on acquiring the services of Clement Lenglet, a 26-year-old French centre-half from Barcelona, the latest reports say.
