Newcastle United set to hijack Liverpool move for £25m Real Madrid star

Newcastle United are reportedly planning to rival Liverpool in the race to sign £25m Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kross.

The Magpies are believed to spend heavily in 2022, having seen a Saudi-led takeover go through, and a number of players have been rumoured with moves to the team over the last few weeks.

According to El Nacional, the Magpies are keen to bring German midfielder, Toni Kroos to the team either in January or during next summer’s transfer window, and a £25m offer for the Germany international is being prepared.

The 31-year-old stays a vital player for Los Blancos, however, he has been restricted to just five appearances in all competitions during the 2021-22 season following due to injury.

Liverpool and Manchester City have both recently been credited with an interest in the playmaker, who could be allowed to depart from the Los Blancos next year as part of a midfield rebuild at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kroos has found back of the net 22 times and provided 80 assists in 325 games for the Los Blancos in all competitions, winning two La Liga trophies and three Champions League titles in the process.
