Arsenal have declared their interest in 29-year-old Real Betis star William Carvalho, with manager Mikel Arteta eyeing reinforcements in January, according to a recent report from Fichajes.
William has failed to live up to the expectations since sealing an eye-catching move to the Spanish side in 2018.
But in recent seasons, the Portuguese midfielder established himself as a core member of Los Verdiblancos, under the leadership of manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Indeed, he has been involved in seven games in La Liga so far, playing a key role in the Chilean’s rotation policy.
Carvalho is currently competing with Guido Rodriguez in the team’s midfield, helping the ex-Manchester City leader shuffle his pack and keep his players fresh amid the gruelling fixture list.
The Gunners are aiming for a similar role for him as they look to snap William up in the upcoming January transfer market.
It is evident that the north Londoners are lacking quality depth in the middle of the pitch and as a result, the club are now looking for midfield reinforcements this winter.
He could be a cost-effective alternative, who isn’t only capable of competing with Thomas Partey in midfield also brings plenty of experience at the highest level of football.
