PL rivals eyeing move for Chelsea out-of-favour midfielder

Newcastle United are understood to be leading the hunt to sign Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, although Leeds United are also keen, TeamTalk report.

He actually played for the Blues in their last match, which was his first PL start of the term, but there’s still a feeling that he could leave and the Magpies are right at the head of the queue for the player’s signature.

Any deal would likely be a short-term loan initially, with a view to turning it into a permanent one in the summer.

They are believed to be more than capable of paying Ross’ wages, although with Eddie Howe considering renovating his squad, he’ll have to carefully choose which stars he signs on temporary deals because of Premier League restrictions.

If Ross was to arrive at St. James’ Park he could be an appealing addition to their roster. The playmaker would inject some much-needed creativity and give the club a bit more flair going forward.

The Magpies only really have the former Arsenal ace, Joe Willock, out of their central midfield variants who can provide an attacking thrust.

Ross apparently feels that a strong end to the term could get him back into the England roster for the World Cup in 2022, so he’ll be highly motivated to succeed at the Magpies if he does arrive. All Rights Reserved 2019
