Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli is having an outstanding debut campaign for the Gunners and his performance on the pitch have drawn the attention of several big clubs across the continent.
Barcelona had been one of the clubs monitoring the Brazilian’s form for the north London side but amid the current turmoil at the Catalan heavyweights, Real Madrid are now preparing to step in with their own pursuit of Gabriel.
According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Real chairman Florentino Perez is hoping to exploit the unrest at Blaugrana to pip their rivals to signing the Gunners’ Martinelli.
The Gunners purchased the 18-year-old from Brazilian outfit Ituano last summer transfer window for a fee of around £6 million.
Blaugrana are currently trying to resolve the turmoil currently engulfing the team, which came about after a row erupted between the club chief Eric Abidal and Lionel Messi.
Abidal stated players poor displays were to blame for manager Ernesto Valverde being sacked and after making his comments, Lionel then challenged Abidal’s remarks, as the South American demanded the Barca chief should name the specific stars he was referring to.
The public spat lead to claims that Abidal could be fired and also raised doubts over Lionel remaining at the club.
But with problems on and off the pitch, as well as Blaugrana’s conduct towards Martinelli in the past, Los Blancos are hoping to make the most of the current situation.
The Galacticos are believed to be in the market for another forward after a disappointing debut campaign from striker Luka Jovic.
Arsenal won’t want to let Martinelli go and one positive for the club is that the talent is under contract until 2024.
