Reason why Arsenal captain left club in January

Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is eager to put a ‘complicated’ several months behind him after falling out with Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and kickstart his career again at Blaugrana.

The Gabon international was released from his lucrative deal by the Premier League giants on Monday, having not featured since being disciplined in last year’s December for returning home late from an authorised trip abroad.

The 32-year-old former Gunners skipper then completed his free transfer to the La Liga giants, having initially arrived in Catalonia on Monday morning before the end of the winter window.

Pierre-Emerick, who could be handed a debut versus Atletico Madrid this weekend, was unveiled by the club on Thursday afternoon, having earlier trained with his new team.

“It’s true that they were complicated months and I think football has these things sometimes,” he said, as the star was unveiled as a Blaugrana player.

“But if I have to say something about this topic (leaving Arsenal), it is that I never wanted to do anything wrong on my part, but I think this is the past and I want to think about the present.”

“It was just a problem with [Arteta] and then he made the decision. I can’t say much more. I wasn’t happy, I stayed very calm and that’s it.”
