Chelsea came close to securing services of Miralem Pjanic before the midfielder made a switch to Barcelona in the summer, according to reports.
The 30-year-old left Serie A champions, Juventus to join Spanish giants, Barca in a €65 million (£59m) deal back in June, while Brazilian playmaker Arthur made the move the moveto the Serie A champions.
Adnrea Pirlo’s side were also interested in securing the services of Jorginho with Maurizio Sarri keen on being reunited with the Italian midfielder he managed at Serie A giants Napoli and Chelsea.
However, Serie A champions have dropped their interest following Sarri’s sacking after the team were knocked out of the Champions League by Ligue 1 giants Lyon at the start of August.
According to Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast, the Blues were on the verge to completing a deal which involved an exchange between Pjanic and Jorginho.
It’s reported that Frank Lampard is a huge fan of Pjanic and was keen for the playmaker to make the move to Stamford Bridge. However, Pjanic rejected Chelsea’s approach as he favoured a move to Barcelona.
Jorginho was also rumoured with a move to the Gunners but the North London club strengthened their options on deadline day with the securing the service of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.
The Blues were also unwilling to let Italian midfielder move to Arsenal as they did not want to strengthen a Premier League rival.
