Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that Chelsea “are definitely in the equation” for Argentine superstar Lionel Messi as the FIFA Ballon d’Or winning forward set to leave Barcelona next summer.

The attacker attempted to secure a move away from the Catalan giants during the recent transfer window, however, Barcelona were not prepared to allow him to depart from a club in a cut-price deal.

Messi’s current deal with Ronald Koeman’s team is set to expire next June, though, and as it stands, he will be able to depart from the club on a free transfer at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Man City are widely regarded as the frountrunners for the 33-year-old, however, Balague has claimed that Chelsea are also in the mix and could make a move for Argentine superstar.

“Chelsea are definitely in the equation if Messi becomes available. That is true. Chelsea will insist they want to hear everything that is going on. If they have the money they will want to be involved too. Remember, there is no transfer fee,” Balague said on his YouTube channel.

Messi has managed to found back of the nt six times and registered four assists in 11 games for the Catalan club this campaign, while he has struck 640 goals in 742 outings for the Spanish giants in all competitions during an incredible career.
