Olivier Giroud has opened up on his “good relationship” with Chelsea head-coach, Frank Lampard and revealed that the former Blues midfielder persuaded him to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The France international was expected to leave the London giants during the summer transfer window after slipping further down in the pecking order since the arrival of Timo Werner.

A number of teams were interested in recruiting the French forward, who has managed to found back of the net 29 times in 91 games for Chelsea across all competitions since joining them from Arsenal back in 2018.

However, the 34-year-old was convinced by Frank Lampard to remain at the club for another year.

“He’s a manager who’s got some good ideas in the game,” he told Onze Mondial. “He communicates well too, in the sense that he knows what he wants to tell his players.

“The message goes through well. Now, of course, there’s a need for time to work, to integrate the new players.

“Either way, I have a good relationship with him, especially after we got to know each other during those three days before the end of the transfer window.

“I was in his office, we were trying to find a solution and I eventually stayed. I’m staying another year, and I have a good relationship with him.”
