Revealed: Liverpool tried to sign 29-year-old African forward

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has revealed that Liverpool have previously tried to sign him before his move to Etihad Stadium.

Having helped Leicester City to claim the Premier League title back in 2016, Algeria international forward has attracted widespread attention in his signature before eventually staying at the King Power Stadium.

Despite making the switch to Man City two years later, the Algerian forward has claimed that his career could have taken a different path had the Merseyside Reds not signed Mohamed Salah.

Speaking to beIN Sports on Instagram, Mahrez said: “Before signing for Manchester City, there was interest from Liverpool in me, but as soon as they took Mohamed Salah, it was finished.”

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a successful period at Pep Guardiola’s side, founding back of the net 21 times and providing 26 assists from his 81 games in all competitions for the Citizens.

Meanwhile, Man Utd and Liverpool are reportedly considering whether to join the race for Valencia forward Ferran Torres.

Having managed to found back of the net six times and provided six assists from 31 appearences this campaign, the 20-year-old is being rumoured with a switch to a bigger team.

Another Premier League team Manchester City and El Classico giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been credited with an interest in the Spanish winger ahead of the upcoming transfer window that might be scheduled following the Coronavirus pandemic.
